Packaging Corporation of America (PCA) is the third largest producer of containerboard in the US. We have eight integrated pulp and paper mills in the US that run 24/7. The security, reliability, and resilience of our industrial control systems (ICS) are critical for our success. As Operational Technology Manager, you are a leader in the strongest corporate technology team in the industry. PCA hires the best technical experts to support all aspects of mill operations: engineering, maintenance, and production. We either self-perform our technical work or provide strong oversight when working with outside vendors. So, grab your hardhat, steel toe boots, and safety glasses – this team is hands on.
What you need to be successful:
Strong working knowledge of Industrial Control Systems (ICS) including PLC and DCS.
Previous experience with Honeywell, ABB, Emerson, and/or Rockwell control systems.
Strong working knowledge of ICS communications and protocols including: OPC-DA and UA standards, HART; Profinet; Fieldbus; ControlNet, etc.
ICS Networking skills including firewall rule development & troubleshooting, Windows Server based applications, industrial networks, TCP/IP/IoT connectivity, edge devices, data analytics, and how to effectively apply these technologies to complex manufacturing environments.
Strong background in several IT related fields including cyber security, server hardware, Unix/Linux OS administration, local cloud environments such as VMware, central antivirus servers, Database administration, programming, Active Directory
System and/or project deployment, configuration, documentation, and training.
Skilled at listening to complex issues, discerning critical information, and communicating best practices.
A passion for learning the latest network technologies, security threats, and best practices.
Able to work cooperatively with a service mindset.
A high level of ownership and accountability.
Curious, innovative, and fiercely pro-active.
Responsibilities include:
- Support corporate and mill DCS, QCS, PLC, and drives groups with OT issues
- Suggest or provide OT training for control system engineers and technicians
- Early involvement in capital projects to assure correct specification of supported equipment
- Develop OT lifecycle management expectations for capital planning
- Support for corporate control system audits
- Work with Operations, IT, and Control groups to develop OT best practices
- Planning and coordination of system updates
- Develop creative solutions to accomplish security goals on legacy equipment
- Stay aware of latest issues, knowledge base articles (KBA), and updates from our suppliers
- Keep OT efforts focused on risk management and production continuity
Certifications:
The successful candidate has several CompTIA (or equivalent) certifications in the following categories:
- A+
- Network+
- Security+
- Cloud+
- Operations Specialist
- Network security specialist
Candidates with VMware, Microsoft, and Cisco certifications (CCNA, MCP, VCP, MCP, MCSA, etc.) will receive preference.
